Agricultural Engineering Building

The Agricultural Engineering building was the first building on campus constructed using reinforced concrete. In 1907, the American Society of Agricultural Engineers (now the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers) was founded in this building. Agricultural Engineers at UW–Madison developed the modern forage harvester (F.W. Duffee), mechanical cherry harvester, seed corn dryer, and mechanical tree planter. Research was conducted on silo fires, dairy cattle housing, soil conservation, and the spontaneous combustion of forage. The Department of Agricultural Engineering is now called Biological Systems Engineering (BSE) (www.bse.wisc.edu).
