The Bartels Science Illustration Internship is a unique opportunity for both upcoming artists and the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. Since 2007, these rotating internships (typically lasting four months) have allowed illustrators to gain experience, perfect skills, and build portfolios. Each intern works on projects illustrating birds, wildlife, and/or plants for the Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s print publications, education and outreach materials, websites, and scientific works, all of which help the Lab achieve its mission. Many times these projects are published which help the artist gain publicity. Interns also have access to the resources at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and Cornell University, which includes entry to the Cornell University Museum of Vertebrates to study prepared specimens; contact with world-renowned scientists and researchers and access to the University’s Library system. This beneficial opportunity has always been a success. Take a look at what this year’s interns have created!
