As you walk down from the Sinakarintra Stit Mahasantikhiri Pagoda you reach the Mae Salong resort where you can stop for coffee or tea with breathtaking views. In our video you can watch the owner of the cafe demonstrating tea making.
Santikhiri Village on the top of Doi Mae Salong has come a long way. It is strongly associated with Thai military history as in the past it functioned as a buffer zone to fight communist insurgents. The village was thus renamed “Mountain of Peace” to mitigate this heritage of violence. You can easily reach the village from Chiang Rai City by travelling up highway 10 to Mae Chan district.
