Sunset on The Lake
Acrylic: 20” x 30” $400
Gwynneth Heaton’s studio on Horseshoe Lake, ‘Maison Moose’, is where she enjoys painting colourful landscapes, animals and non-objective works. She began painting with watercolours in 2002 and later added acrylics to her arsenal. Creating, for her, is a battle with the medium to achieve the desired affect. She has exhibited, sold paintings and won awards. A member of the Willowdale Group of Artists and the Don Valley Art Club, Gwynneth has also attended many courses at the Haliburton School of Art + Design.
About the Work
Evenings at the cottage are idyllic when there is a sunset to watch. While full of violent colours, it is also extremely peaceful. A photograph of a sunset over Horseshoe Lake inspired this painting. Along with other cottagers, we would go out on the lake in a boat to watch the play of colours in the sky. It could have been a social time, and sometimes it was, but most often it was a time for contemplation and tranquility. My cottage is a humble summer cabin. The sunsets over the lake are the music of the air that sweetens our evenings in Haliburton.
