Triangle

Historic Meridian Park Neighborhood

Triangle

Indianapolis, Indiana 46204, United States

Created By: Historic Urban Neighborhoods of Indianapolis

Information

Sometime in the 1940s, the landscaped esplanade which ran the length of Pennsylvania Street was removed by the City of Indianapolis. A similar esplanade along 32nd street was also removed around this time. Today, the Triangle is one of three “traffic calming” road structures in Meridian Park. Landscaped and maintained by the neighborhood, the three traffic barriers along Pennsylvania Street were installed in 2002 and provide a partial glimpse of what the street may have looked like before the original landscaped esplanade was removed.

Like many of the city’s early streets, Historic Meridian Park's were bricked with thick pavers made in Braille, Indiana.
