ARCHITECTURE/CULTURE
This Firehouse is the oldest active Firehouse in America. Completed in 1848, and constructed by local builder John Harington. It is a fine example of Greek Revival architecture and is in remarkable condition for its age. The bell tower was once enclosed by a massive wooden louvered cupola which has been removed and the original door opening was change to accommodate a newer apparatus. The building is a perfect example of how historic preservation can work together with the needs of the cities modern fire service.
