Black chokeberry Note persistant clusters of dark black berries
Japanese kerria Note very green stems
Pearl Bush Note capsules Expanding flower buds look like pearls
False spirea Note pinnately compound leaves, plants spreading by suckers to the point of being weedy dried flower heads from last summer
Spirea Bumalda (knee high or more) Japanese Spirea shorter Note colorful emerging leaves, fine twiggy habit dried flat-top flower heads
Baby's breath spirea New leaves very pale green, early flowers
Lace Shrub, Stephanandra Note: spreads by suckers which form layers sharp, short thorns at nodes
