"Come Together"

"Come Together" by artist Alex Mendez of Decatur, Indiana seems right at home in front of the Second Wind Music Center, located at 118 West Center. Here as part of the 2022/2023 Midwest Sculpture Initiative exhibit through May 2023, this sculpture measures 2' x 5' x 5'8" and is available for purchase at $4,800.

ARTIST BACKGROUND: Alex Mendez was born in the rural town of Decatur, Indiana. Alex’s background is in music, having studied classical methods for guitar, he continues to this day as a working musician. This musical background has influenced his journey into metal sculpture. Alex has been drawn to abstract forms because he believes this provides a way to portray what a musician might visualize in sculpted art. Alex has been working close to four years as an apprentice with his brother, sculptor Greg Mendez. He has made an effort to understand all aspects of sculpture; including concept, design, sculpting and installation and is now creating his own unique sculptures. Each new sculpture Alex creates is a progression of his musical and artistic abilities that he hopes will be enjoyed by all.
