The modest Federal style half-house immediately behind at 139 Maxfield Street was built around 1835 as Thomas Durfee’s, a ship’s smith, first residence. He lived here until 1839. The splayed window lintels and thin pilasters supporting tall imposts reflect good Federal style practice as seen in numerous
nearby houses.
