Cali holds a BA in Studio Art from the University of Vermont and an MFA from UMass, Amherst. She has taught in high school and community art spaces for over 2 decades, recently completed a two year as an Artist in Residence program at the Worcester Center for Crafts, and is currently the Studio Coordinator for the Ceramics program there. Cali has also worked in and supported a number of arts, educational, and social justice organizations over the years and brings a lens of community and connection to her work. She has exhibited her ceramics at a variety of arts festivals and galleries.
The natural landscape and beauty are significant inspiration for her work, especially time walking in the woods, through the marsh, and along the shore. She is drawn to the patterns, colors, forms and contrasts she finds. She embraces the challenge of creating simple forms in clay, particularly vessels, platters, and tiles and then exploring more expressive surfaces. She uses slips, glazes, resists, printing, pouring, and even finger painting to achieve results. Some of her pieces reveal recognizable images and patterns from the landscape while others are more abstracted. She strives to bring a sense of love and respect for place to her work.
