Charles A. Whitney, born in 1854, established residence in LaGrange in 1881. In 1884, he begane the Subruban News, a weekly paper, the first between Chicago and Aurora.
Mr Whitney sold the house to the family of A. D. French. Mr French, a descendent of an English family that settled in Virgina before 1700, served as Village Fire Marshall from 1893-1897. This vernacular house displays a full wraparound porch with half classical columns on limestone support.
