OIL: Landscapes and seascapes in the American Luminist tradition
Willing to provide ongoing demonstrations throughout the Tour weekend.
Johanna is a committed realist painter who works in many media. She paints primarily in oil on panel. She has created "paintings in wool" -- hangings and pillows -- applying traditional American rug hooking techniques to her painting practice. She has also created encaustic paintings that she has most recently experimented with transfer to metal as "outdoor paintings".
Her passion for landscape painting reflects her obligation to document the glorious New England landscape before development and the ravages of climate change transform the environment.
Johanna begins a painting at the opening of the Studio Tour that she works on throughout the openings. When visitors arrive, she pauses and explains her process and highlights the point she has reached in creating the final work.
