In August 2000 a wind-shear significantly altered the forest at Kemp. Many trees were broken off or blown down, resulting in “tip ups.” As you continue your hike, you will notice many trees lying on their sides, with roots exposed and a hole where the roots once were. The term “tip up” refers to the roots that have been tipped up.
