430 Christmas Tree Drive / Wolfgang Thron House / Architect: Hobart Wagener / Style: Expressionist / built 1963
Architect Hobart Wagener designed this house for CU college professor Wolfgang Thron and his family. The design takes advantage of its sloping site with two floors of rooms facing the street and one on the up-hill side. The ‘butterfly’ roof is upward sloping from the middle, creating a very high window height. A continuous wall of windows and a balcony run along the second floor. The exterior design of the gridded windows is influenced by the rational architecture of Mies van der Rohe
