401-635-8958
Will provide ongoing demonstrations throughout the Tour weekend. Johanna usually has a painting in progress throughout the open studio tours where she discusses her process, use of color and demonstrates her practice at the moment of creating the painting.
Johanna began painting following in the early 1980s following an apprenticeship at Nonquit Pottery, Tiverton. She has studied throughout Rhode Island, including RISD and Newport Art Museum. She completed a residency at the Vermont Studio School with Bernard Chaet, Marjory Portnoy, and Wolf Khan. In addition to her oil paintings, she uses traditional American rug hooking techniques to create paintings in wool.
Johanna's inspiration comes largely from the glorious New England landscape and a passion to preserve its character in the face of increased development.
