59 “Floating” House 1564 Cabrillo Ave Robert Choeff / Krystyan Keck 2009
While the original bungalow is an intact, sedate gray, there features a floating modernist cube over top. Four posts levitate the addition structure entirely over the existing home’s roof with only a small connection for a stairwell. The upper addition is playfully sheathed in a semi-translucent polycarbonate skin and insulated with used denim - resulting in startling sunsets and diffused light.
