Will provide ongoing demonstrations throughout the Tour weekend. Cecilia is happy to demonstrate use of tools in a general fashion outdoors if a small group is interested and weather permits. Otherwise a simpler demo indoors often occurs covering tools, process and stages of carving as well as the mold making process via examples of pulled from mold casts.

Cecilia carves directly in stone (alabaster, limestone marble and others) to create figurative and abstract pieces. Direct carving involves carving at a 45 degree angle off marked highpoints with points and various tools, chisels and a 2 lb. hammer. She does all carving and finishing primarily by hand. Once the negative spaces are achieved and the form is completed there is a laborious finishing process that involves rasps, silicone carbide papers, sealing and waxing for the warm glow achieved on the stone surface.

Various woods are also carved and found on display in her studio. Wood carving involves a mallet and various gauges and razor sharp tools that are lovingly carved with the grain to create strong images of like her walnut "Man in the Moon". The best woods to carve are fruit and nut trees.

She also casts off some her smaller carvings or modeled clay pieces which she then offers in Limited Editions of 20 or less so unlimited editions which can be found at much lower price point that the carvings. Cast work is of highest quality artist cement ( aka hydro stone) and often finished with bronze patina or acrylic paint and sealed for easy care and display. Her mold making skills can be seen in the tour with a thorough explanation/ demo of the process. No piece is exactly like another as each piece comes from the mold needing some finishing and the process of painting allows for variety in details and finishes.

Large stone wall with long driveway parking anywhere along it, approach right side slope to rear of house. Limited handicap parking follow driveway down hill left side of house to door of studio in walkout basement. Restroom at top of stairs right.
