For the past 18 years, Amy Thurber has been producing one of a kind functional pottery using leaves she grows in her extensive gardens at Doves Foot Pottery. She is inspired by the natural world, and incorporates, colorful beetles, snails and other critters into her designs. Intrigued by natural forms, textures and colors, Amy gardens for her pottery. When she begins a piece, she lets the leaves direct the form. Many times the results are more organic than her original intentions. She attempts to work in harmony with natural objects to bring functionality to the leaves she nurtures. Amy Thurber has a BFA in illustration from Rhode Island School of Design. She also exhibits her illustrations and book designs.
Amy will be demonstrating different stages of her process, from hand-building to applying colors to the leaf impressions. Tour the gardens to see the various plant material she grows to create her artwork.
Plenty of on-street parking. Proceed on foot to the studio past the wooden gate and through the gardens. Handicapped parking next to the studio.
