Information

630 Pennsylvania Street / Marvin White House / Architect: Tician Papachristou and Charles Haertling / Style: Frank Lloyd Wright ‘Usonian’ / built 1958

This house is not very visible from the public right of way except in winter when tree leaves are absent. We wanted to include it on the tour because it is a rare design collaboration of architects Charles Haertling and Tician Papachristou. It’s a modern interpretation of a mountain cabin with concrete block instead of a stone foundation and horizontal planks of wood instead of logs for the main siding. The gabled roof is unusual because it has a different slope on either side of the ridge. The overhangs are extra-large to provide climate management of the hot summer sun. The back of the house has a floor-to-ceiling glass wall providing west views through the forest to the foothills.

This point of interest is part of the tour: Mid-Century Modern Architecture in Boulder, CO - Lower Flagstaff
