These buildings appear to be in place when the Sanborn Fire Insurance Co. drew their first map of Newton in 1884.
708 N Main
In the 1880s, the building at 708 N Main served as the Palace Meat Market owned by Joseph Steinkirchner. From the 1930s through the 1960s Western Auto Associates was located at 708 N Main.
710 N Main
710 N Main was first listed as F.S. Steinkirchner's music store. By 1916, the Home Cooking Cafe had opened its doors. Later names for the cafe included Silver Moon Cafe and Ed's Cafe. A barber shop was also located in the building until 1975.
