840 Park Lane /Jacobs House / Architect: attributed to Hobart Wagener with a large addition by Tician Papachristou / Style: Frank Lloyd Wright ‘Usonian’ / built 1953, addition in the late 1950’s
Robert and Sonia Jacobs came to Boulder for a job at the Bureau of Standards (N.I.S.T.) in 1951. He was a scientist working on nuclear physics. Their home was designed in the Wright and Eichler style in 1953 with a low sloping roof, exposed ceiling rafters, and a wall of windows connecting the living room to the backyard and views to the Flatirons. As their family grew to 5 children they hired architect Tician Papachristou to design a 2-story addition to add more bedrooms and a garage. The addition is an intricate and sculptural composition of cubic shapes with flat roofs, big overhangs, and expressed roof rafters.
