885 Circle Drive / Robert and Dorothy Downey House/ Architect: unknown / Style: ‘International’ - Mies Van Der Rohe / built 1952, large addition in the 1990’s.
While the original house has been extensively remodeled, we included this stop on the tour because the addition is a very good example of referencing the original modern architectural features. These include the overhanging flat roofs, the horizontal oriented wood siding, the cubist shape of the building and the landscape walls layered to relate to the house design. These design elements relate to the very early era of Modernism, the International style, as exemplified by the work of master architect Mies van der Rohe.
This point of interest is part of the tour: Mid-Century Modern Architecture in Boulder, CO - Lower Flagstaff
