950 6th Street / John Major House / Architect: attributed to James Hunter / Style: Eichler / built 1953
This house design is closely related to the architecture of Joseph Eichler. His company built nearly 11,000 single-family homes in California, primarily between the late 1940s and 1960s. This house design features walls of glass opening to views, decks and patios, low sloping roofs with triangular windows at the apex under the eaves, ‘open’ floor plans, and a car port. The design takes advantage of its sloping site with 2 floor levels facing downhill and one on the uphill side.
