960 6th Street / Damon and Thea Phinney House / Architect: John McMorran with a recent addition and remodel by Cheri Belz / Style: Frank Lloyd Wright ‘Usonian’ / built 1963, addition in 2023
The Phinney family moved into this 2-story home in 1963. Damon was a mechanical engineer with Ball Aerospace. The house has design elements influenced by the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright, including the low sloping roof with large overhanging eaves, mostly brick siding, and a wood clad pop out for bedrooms. The house sits at the top of a hill. In 2023 a garage was added lower down on the hillside. The interior layout is a split-level arrangement, accessing the 2 floors. The great room has an open floor plan with vaulted ceilings and a fireplace anchoring the end of the living room.
