Information

The Towner (formerly Tarbell) barn is part of a 200-acre farm and is believed to have been on the same route of the Underground Railroad used by Harriet Tubman. It has been in the family for seven generations. This barn was originally used for housing livestock (horses, sheep, and cows). The remainder of the first floor was used to store potatoes and other crops, a portion of which was supplied to the Auburn Correctional Facility to feed inmates. The second floor was used primarily to store hay. A hay track, a mechanism that was used ubiquitously after the Civil War, is still hanging in the interior.
