At less than 1-mile, Nicollet is a walkable street. The Mall serves as a major spine and connector, linking together many adjacent places and neighborhoods. The design vision extends Nicollet with intensive greening to connect the cultural and green hubs of Loring Park and the Walker Art Center in the south to the Mississippi Riverfront and institutions in the north.

Other key connections include transit links along 5th and 7th Streets, clearly demarcated crossings at all street intersections, clear signage and improved access to primary institutions along the corridor.
