Arizona honeysuckle

Flagstaff, Arizona 86001, United States

Created By: Friends_of_the_Rio

Information

This is probably the largest population of this lovely native plant in the City of Flagstaff. It spreads by runners and blooms in June, covering the northeast-facing slope with red blossoms. Please do not pick the flowers. Plucking not only hurts the plant, it may also hurt you because poison ivy is intermixed with the honeysuckle. If you join Friends if the Rio and meet the right people, you can get a honeysuckle plant from this genetic stock for your garden; it will spread rapidly in the shadiest part of your yard.

Red columbine and dogbane are additional showy plants common in this part of the canyon but rare elsewhere in Flagstaff.
