The Aycock-Allison Home was built circa 1905 by Morgan County Grocery Company owners, William and Mamie Aycock. The property changed hands several times over the years until acquired by U.S. Postal Service Superintendent, Rufus M. Campbell, in 1955. The one-story, Victorian cottage was built utilizing poplar and cypress wood. The home features a cross gable roof, with a front-facing gabled wing on the west side. The home was vacant from 1994 until purchased by current owner, Lewanda Allison, in 2016. After purchase, the new owner undertook a complete restoration, bringing this historic home back to its original Victorian style in only three months. Her first order of business was to save the integrity of the home by replacing the roof. Next, came new plumbing, new electrical, new heating and air, and original heart of pine floor restoration.
At the front door, guests are welcomed inside the grand center hall, uniquely decorated cleverly mixing Modern design with classic Victorian style. The original front porch now makes up half of the stunningly decorated double living area. Originally, the home had three bedrooms and one bathroom. To make the home more comfortable for the current owner’s use, one of the bedrooms has been divided to construct a guest bathroom and a breakfast area was added to the new modern kitchen. The home has four original fireplaces and a luxurious master bedroom suite. Lewanda invites you to enjoy the style and décor of her historic Church Street home on this year’s Christmas Tour.
