Begin at site of First Clash

You should begin this tour by reviewing the information given by the historical marker on Church Street at the site of Forrest's charge (Site 5 in Part I of the tour). You will also need to set your trip odometer at
that location. To get to the marker, leave the library and go left. Turn right onto Church Street and return to the Battle of Okolona historical marker you visited at Site 5 above.

This part of the tour follows Smith's retreat and Forrest's pursuit up today's U.S. Route 41. It is a two-lane road and it can be busy. To make locating your stops as easy as possible, set your trip odometer to zero here at the old Okolona College gateposts.
