Berlin is ranked #8 on my list because of the history of the Brandenburg Gate. The construction of the Brandenburg Gate started in 1788. It was commisioned by Frederick William II as an entrance to Unterden Linden, a boulevard that lead to the Prussian palace. The gate had withstood Hitler's rise to power, and his fall. A parade for Hitler's rise to power was held at the gate, and it later became a part of the Berlin Wall, which seperated West Berlin and East Berlin. This city is ranked above Philadelphia because Philadelphia an American city, and American cities are babies when compared to those of Europe and Asia. Since American cities are newer, they don't have the interesting history that older cities do.
