Black Ash (Fraxinus nigra)
Black Ash trees grow best in cold swamps and bogs, which is why I can find them in the woods beyond the heath. It is a rather slender tree that can grow up to 70 feet tall. The leaves on this tree stand out to me, as they are relatively large with 7-11 leaflets and can be seen from the ground even though branch growth on this tree often occurs a considerable distance from the ground.
