102 Stitt Street
Built: 1910
Style: Vernacular Cottage
This home was occupied by sisters Cornelia Blayney and Grace (Blayney) Olive from 1925 to 1965. Miss Blayney taught in the Wabash City High School from 1907 to 1946, and Mrs. Olive was the principal in the Wabash City Elementary School from 1897 to 1913.
This home is an unusual example of a vernacular cottage. The simple window and door surrounds and lack of ornamentation are both typical elements of a working-class home in Wabash. However, the central pyramidal roof line and diagonally placed portico with pediment are quite interesting. The exterior treatment of the structure has recently been updated, but the limestone block foundation and asymmetrical massing are original.
