The school opened in 1902 as a "whites only" institution. The central building was constructed and opened in 1911. The black children were educated in a separate location in a school that was funded by individuals that were sympathetic to the need and fought for the school. The left addition was added and later followed by the right addition. It is named for Mr. CG Credle a former principal and school superintendent. It is the oldest school in NC that is still operating in its original location.
