Information

Café Calcinha, inaugurated under the name Café Central, opened to the public in 1927 and was founded by José Domingos Cavaco, whose nickname was Calcinha (panties). The decoration of the establishment follows the lines of Art Nouveau. In the esplanade area, there is a sculpture made by Mestre Lagoa Henriques representing the popular poet António Aleixo. In this cafe he made some famous recitations of his poems.
