Westport Post Office ~ Southwest Corner of Main and Spring Streets

Built in 1935, this Victorian Gothic revival style building was constructed of local sandy limestone and has been operating as the Village post office since the day it opened. It is styled along the same designs as the parliament buildings with its copper roof and corner clock tower. The stone carvings done in Quebec by local craftsmen are an example of that time period. Note the lizards that flank the corners of the main doorway and the squirrel on the corner of the tower block. High atop the spire you’ll notice the handcrafted weather vane of a postman braving the elements to deliver the mail.
