One of the most beautiful villas on the island, this beach house that architect Manuel Gomes da Costa designed for António Pires and his family in 1959 on the lagoon side. Beautiful open carport and the always refreshingly 'modern-looking' mosaic work, a special feature of the architect.
The back side with its Cobogo - open stone - wall shows a surprising spatial game of balcony openings that jump forward and backwards. The terrace cover - combined with an other surprising and modern mosaic work underneath, but now in a different color - and the subtle openings make this villa one of the highlights on the island.
The black and white photos (9 and 10) give an impression of how the villa looked like after it had just been completed or (11) was still under construction..
