Information

Description of the Center for Academic Achievement Center:

The CAA is the Center for Academic Achievement Center at FGCU located in the library in room 103 West. To get to the CAA, if you’re walking from the Cohen Center, you go straight to the library and go to the entrance to the right of the Starbucks and there you will find it directly to your left. Now you may wonder what types of services are available at the CAA and how it would benefit a student to go there. Some of the services the CAA provides are academic coaching, instructional support tutoring, supplemental instruction, and soar to success workshops. Each of these different types of services allows for students to receive help in many different aspects of their life in order to help them manage their life as a college student.

FGCU CAA Hours of Operation:

The CAA is open Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm. However, it isn’t a place where you can just walk in and get immediate help. At the CAA you must have your Eagle I.D and you must schedule an appointment at least one day in advance and you are only allowed two appointments a week. In order to schedule an appointment, you can walk in or you can call them at (239)-590-7906 and for updates on the CAA you can follow them on all social media @fgcu_CAA.

CAA Services Research:

First, one of the services the CAA offers is academic coaching which is instruction that helps to provide a learning environment to help the students to develop skills that in which are directly correlated to academics as well as skills that are indirectly correlated. Some of these skills include how to study effectively as well as taking a test, how to develop the motivation for success, how to utilize campus resources, and organization strategies. Another service provided by the CAA is supplemental instruction. Supplemental Instruction is another way for students to enhance their ability to understand the concepts of a class by attending sessions with a student that received at least a B+ in the class in which you are looking for help in and there are regularly scheduled review sessions where you can meet people taking the same class and can even develop study groups of your own. Tutoring is also provided by the CAA in which there is one on one tutoring for a specific class which is a scheduled appointment. The tutoring can also be a small group walk-in format as well if you didn’t make an appointment. If you have any questions about tutoring you can feel free to email or call Gail Mishler the Tutoring Services Coordinator at gmishler@fgcu.edu or (239)-745-4407. There are also scheduled workshops open to everyone that range from a variety of different topics like writing skills and on how to stay focused throughout the school year.
