Information

This is what you would see traveling N. Cherry Street in 2007.

Habitat for Humanity of Forsyth County began revitalization efforts in the Boston Thurmond neighborhood alongside community partners in 2008 and became a part of the neighborhood itself when moving the campus to its current location in 2015.

Construction on North Cherry Street began Habitat for Humanity of Forsyth County’s shift to Neighborhood Revitalization – an approach where our team works alongside residents to assist in realizing their vision for a revitalized community.

Neighborhood Revitalization includes:

  • building safe-affordable homes for low-income families, providing the security that comes with home ownership and building wealth based on home equity
  • Working with existing housing in two ways –
    • renovating and preserving architecturally significant properties for first-time homeowners
    • and assisting owner occupants in making vital repairs to their own housing they otherwise would be unable to enjoy including helping seniors age in place.
  • assisting on other community projects that advance the residents’ vision for their neighborhood, like the Kimberley Park Community Garden, which you will see on the left.
