Caught up in the Progressive movement of the late nineteenth century, several generous residents provided an opportunity for the Marion County Board of Children’s Guardians to locate their shelter in the neighborhood. The Children’s Guardians Home was a shelter for abused and battered children and those orphaned or abandoned up to the age of 18. The Guardian home closed in 2009 and is now the home of the Irvington Charter High School.
