Northcote’s first postmaster, John Grout Denby, ran a shop and post office here until 1893, as well as strawberry gardens in the Belle Vue Avenue area. The Clow family bought the property in the 1890s and established a bakery and tearooms. The bakery was run by the Gunman family in the 1950s.
On the corner opposite there were once stables and a blacksmith shop and later Andrew Miller's horse-bus company. Continue down Queen Street.
