Control Tower for Operation Bumble Bee

Historic Top Secret Walking Tour of Topsail Beach

Control Tower for Operation Bumble Bee

Topsail Beach, North Carolina 28445, United States

Created By: Historical Society of Topsail Island

Information

When each missile was launched, the nine towers built up the beach monitored infomation about the missile: speed, direction, height, length of trip, etc. All that information was fed back into the Control Tower.

Triangulation of the photo equipment from the towers would record the flights over 10-20 miles at speeds of 1,500 mph. Topsail Island is 26 miles long and was perfect for missiles traveling 10-20 miles.

The town's emergency and fire department will be built on the area behind the Control Tower.

Go south on Anderson Blvd.
