Research

CAPS stands for counseling and psychological services. CAPS is the main source for mental health support and psycho-therapeutic services here on campus at FGCU. Most of the services they offer are covered for students who are enrolled for the current semester. They do not offer services for students who aren’t enrolled in the current semester. If you are taking one semester off between two enrolled semesters there is a Health Bridge fee of $54 you can pay at Student Health or at the CAPS office. The CAPS website provides information on the many different services provided for example there's anything from individual counseling and mental health testing to suicide prevention programs. CAPS has a attendance policy if you do not show up or cancel less than 2 hours before your appointment, you will be charged a no show fee of $25. But if you miss your psychiatric or LD/ADHD testing you will be charged $45. The CAPS website also provides self-help tools they are used for self help purposes they are not intended to replace professional treatment. They provide links to other websites with relaxation, sleep, communication, anger, and many more. CAPS also has group counseling available for students. In a group students receive support, understandment, and encouragement. Others in the group could be facing similar issues so you will feel comfortable around them. According to their website page “Group therapy is a powerful vehicle for growth and change, and is intended to help people who would like to gain support, increase self-awareness, and learn new ways to cope with personal or interpersonal challenges.” CAPS is a very resourceful center for students to go talk even if it’s something small you can seek help.
