These are the original clockworks from the Tower Clock built into the Rutherford County Courthouse in 1860, before the Civil War had started. The clockworks survived the Civil War battle fought around the courthouse, occupation, and the devastating tornade of 1913 that demolished several buildings along the square.
The clock was restored in 2004 and placed on display at the Discovery Center of Murfreesboro for several years before returning home to serve as the centerpiece of the Rutherford County Courthouse Museum.
