If you look carefully into the water flowing under the bridge, you may see tadpoles and other little fish. If you are brave and turn over some of the rocks in the little creek you might be surprised to see a crayfish come scuttling out from under the rocks. Crayfish are sediment dwelling crustaceans that feed on decaying matter and smaller sediment dwellers (Richman et al., 2015). They are important prey for larger fish and birds including the Great Blue Heron and are considered a keystone species in the freshwater food web (Mormot, Gowing & Jones, 1978).
