The Creative Voltage Mural was completed in 2017 by Boston artist and Hazleton native Mary Veronica Sweeney with support from the Downtown Hazleton Alliance for Progress and the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. The mural depicts Thomas Edison, who in 1883 made Hazleton the third city in the world to have two-wire, three phase streetlights. Edison, together with the miners who extracted the coal to make electrification possible, helped make the City of Hazleton a center for business and culture well into the 20th-century. In this mural Edison transfers his creative energy to the children of the community.
