Issace Dakin and Lewis McLauflin’s blacksmith shop opened in June of 1853. Their business was a huge success and a second building was attached to the east of the original. During these years they employed a dozen smiths to meet the workload. The flood of 1862. Damaged much of their equipment. The original building burned down in 1928. The present structure was constructed by volunteer labor and donated supplies to resemble the original Dakin shop. It was completed in 1982. And turned over to the Oakdale Rural Fire Department to be used as their Fire Station #2.
