Decontamination suite/Wing Headquarters

Building 274, now Venture West, was the Wing Headquarters for the USAF. It was built in 1985 and is now a Grade II listed building being a prime example of Cold War military architecture. This was the control build for the USAF base. If the cruise missiles were ever to be deployed the order would have been relayed from here. Notice the original oval windows and blast proof walls outside the main entrance. The building is made from reinforced concrete and stainless steel and clad with PVC coated metal sheets.The dark pink block on the end of the build is the decontamination suite and battle room.

Opposite Building 274 is a low, windowless brown building. This was the base’s armoury.Point of Interest 3

Go back through the wooden gate onto the common and follow the path to the left.
