The Loop offers six blocks of exhilarating one-of-a-kind shops, restaurants, art galleries, live music, café culture, and the St. Louis Walk of Fame.
The Delmar Loop got its name over a century ago from streetcars that came west and “looped around” before connecting to other areas. That movement and momentum continues today, as The Loop expands with exciting new growth and development that has made it a destination.
Some of the architectural and programmatic highlights of the loop include:
University City City Hall
Built by Edward Gardner Lewis in 1903 as the "Women's Magazine Building", and designed by local architect Herbert Chivers, the octagonal rococo styled, five-story brick and limestone building became the city hall in 1930. It served as the epicenter of activities for the 1904 World's Fair.
COCA - Center of Creative Arts http://www.cocastl.org
Designed in 1950 by internationally renowned architect Eric Mendelsohn
