Information

The Thomas Dexter Grist Mill was originally constructed in 1654 along Shawme Pond. Locals would no longer have to travel to Plymouth to get their grain milled. The mill operated for 240 years and eventually closed in 1881. It had several other uses throughout the succeeding years, including as a tea house. By 1962 it was in desperate need of repair and the town embarked on a faithful re-build of the mill using the original 1654 plans! Today it operates as a museum and visitors can see grain being milled and learn about the process.
