The simple, double-gabled homestead up the driveway across the road was built in 1876 and was home to well-known Auckland businessman John Roberton. The family called the estate Earnoch after the area in Lanarkshire, Scotland, where their ancestors came from. They tried to make the house their permanent residence in 1884, but commuting to Auckland was not easy so they moved back to the city. The Roberton family eventually sold the home to Ernest Cutten, a local magistrate, in the 1920s, and it later became the home of Alan Buxton, a Takapuna dentist.
Although most of the land has been subdivided, the homestead is largely unchanged and can be seen above the roofs of the surrounding structures.
